Stephen and Ondrea Levine Need our Support

Dharma | No Comments

An Open Letter from Jack Kornfield, Ram Dass, and Sharon Salzberg

Dear Friends,

We are writing to ask your support for two beloved friends of ours, Stephen and Ondrea Levine. They are currently facing significant difficulty. After a life-time of giving, they are now at a time to receive from those of us whose lives have been touched by their presence and teaching.

Their greatest needs are financial. Ondrea has Leukemia and the costs of her insurance and treatment have used up their savings. Stephen’s health is not good either, and he is too frail to travel or teach. When we heard about this, we felt moved to contribute to a fund set up for them, and to encourage others to do the same.

Stephen and Ondrea have been among our generation’s most important teachers, demonstrating and encouraging others to embrace the power of love and generosity. For three years, they ran a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week free phone line for those dying or in need of support. When the phone bills got too high, they sold their house to keep the project going. For decades they regularly corresponded with thousands people who were seeking spiritual guidance, giving freely to those in need, many of whom were sick or in the final years of their life.

The circle has now come around, allowing us the opportunity to give to these two life-long givers. We hope to raise several hundred thousand dollars in small and large donations to help them through this time.

Caring for friends and teachers is an essential part of any spiritual life. As we age, spiritual friends are more important than ever. Stephen and Ondrea have been dear spiritual friends to us and to thousands of others through their books, workshops, and correspondence.

If you are one of these people and are moved to give, below are three ways to donate to the Levine Fund at Bread for the Journey. Bread for the Journey informs us that donations are tax deductible.

With gratitude and love,

Jack Kornfield, Ram Dass, and Sharon Salzberg

1974 Ironhead Sportster XLCH

Funnies, My Life | 3 Comments

1974 Ironhead SportsterI found myself a new little obsession a couple of weeks ago and I’m really excited. I figured I’d put up a picture or two of the before, progress and after with this one. It’s a 1974 Ironhead Sportster, it’s a kickstart only and man can I tell you it makes me feel like a little girl sometimes having to kickstart this bike. Maybe I get winded because I still smoke LOL. Anyways enough about the smoking for now and on to having a new toy. I’ve spent enough time energy and money with old cars over my lifetime to know I’d never get another one without having something else as my daily driver and this is what I came up with as a project.

The things I’ve been thinking about doing to this vary from lowering the rear suspension to completely changing the frame to rigid. It should be a fun project in the mean time. Since I impulsively purchased this bike without knowing much about Harley models (the price was just right) I’ve learned a ridiculous amount about these bikes online. I even drove it over to Bartels Harley Davidson and got a couple of mixed opinions from the mechanics, one told me it was the coolest thing he’d seen in a long time that exact bike being his first bike ever, and the other one told me it needs to be taken out back and shot. That made me laugh pretty hard at the time then completely embarrassed me when i couldn’t get it started out front and it took me about 15 mins and three times as many kicks to figure out I was out of gas. So I’m still up in the air and not sure if anyone has any opinions I’m not looking to make this some big ole chopper since it’s just a Sportster but IHandle Bar Cheese would like to turn this into a project to screw around with.

I’ve managed to take up most of my time at the office looking at aftermarket stuff to put on the bike and even found a screaming deal on helmets and other gear at a site (dare I even say the name without feeling like I should be hanging out in West Hollywood on the weekends) leather up

I hope you enjoy seeing the progress and process here on my blog while I’m building this cheesy old 70’s machine into something worth riding without wearing dolphin shorts and a handle bar mustache….. oh yeah and a mullet

Ultimately here’s a link to what I’d like my bike to closely resemble he did a great job of hooking up his 71 sporty.

It’s been awhile

My Life | No Comments

Sorry for being MIA I’ve had a few things to take care of, one being quitting my damn job it’s just taking up too much time for me to actually be unproductive.  I will keep in contact and continue to update when I can.  I have a new project I’ve been working on lately which is really a fun project.  Take a look at the USEF site I have built it’s for the United States Entertainment Force which is a great non profit.  If you get a chance come check out the Hollywood Santa Parade this year they are a major sponsor for the event.

The Company is basically what the USO used to be bringing entertainment to the troops and a major supporter of troops getting back on their feet when they return home.

Anyways to bring you up to speed, of course I’m smoking away, it never ceases to amaze me that smokers are like dope fiends they always welcome you back with open arms.  LOL I guess I’m no different but let’s see since my last few posts I’ve quit and started and quit and started and quit and now I’m smoking away.

Oh yeah and Chantix totally made me feel like a crazy person, not so conducive  to staying sober when you feel like a homicidal maniac.  I think I’ll stick with the gum in my meager attempts to be a non smoker.

Non Smoking Sanity

Funnies, My Life | 8 Comments

So today I’m currently at day 8 off of smokes and it’s been a roller coaster. I’ve been chewing a little bit of the nicotine gum.

  1. day = 8 pieces of gum
  2. day = 8 pieces of gum
  3. day = 6 pieces of gum
  4. day = 4 pieces of gum

And so on you get the idea, anyways today I’ve had 1 piece of gum and I’m doing okay, besides the random bouts of psychosis. I’ve had emotional mood swings from everything

being okay to thinking that I have to find a new job, and wanting to drive people off the road.

Very interesting to watch my mind be so consumed with this preoccupation of my hourly ritual, every time I have a feeling I go smoke, every time I feel good I go smoke.

Every time I feel bad, I go smoke. I’ve had this love affair with a camel for almost 17 years now burning about a pack or more a day. Today I’m finally felling okay enough to admit that I am completely addicted to the nicotine and tar and carcinogens .

It’s slowly getting better I know that but it’s no picnic that’s for sure. I will have more to report and talk about when I have a piece of mind returned to me.

Genius Behind Presidential Speeches

Funnies | 2 Comments

I knew there was genius behind our presidency, God Bless America.

Here is a beautiful parody that is presented by Andy Dick that I thought was absolutely hilarious. I hope it’s just as funny for you too. Ok now back to work.

The 12 Steps of Redemption For SEO

SEO/SEM, Funnies | 3 Comments

Google checkpointIt has come to my attention that google being the god that they are on the internet have a very similar role to play in the life of a website that closely rivals the higher power of someone in A.A.. It reminds me of the book 1984, where big brother seems to have all the control over what we do. Nothing to do but bow down and make sure your sites are relevant and fit the guidelines of what they find as a relevant search result. Serve the engine, give up your first born site.

Read below and let me know what you think, does it make sense to you?

  1. We admitted we were powerless over Google–that our sites had become unmanageable.
  2. Came to believe that a Power greater than Google could restore us to rankings.
  3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Google as we understood Him.
  4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of our Google sitemaps.
  5. Admitted to Google, to ourselves and to another SEO-er the exact nature of our wrongs.
  6. Were entirely ready to have Google remove all these defects of character from the SERPs.
  7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
  8. Made a list of all other sites we had outranked, and became willing to make amends to them all.
  9. Made direct amends to such sites wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
  10. Continued to take website inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
  11. Sought through prayer (links) and meditation (content) to improve our conscious contact with Google, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for our sites and the power to carry that out.
  12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other sites, and to practice these principles in all our content and links.

Go Skateboarding Day Cops Vs. Kids

My Life | 1 Comment

Here’s another example of how some police tend to be a little over the top. Seems to me that someone in the Arkansas Police Department should be going to anger management classes.

from transworld skateboarding…
A dispicable act of police brutality was committed on Go Skateboarding Day by the Hot Springs, Arkansas Police Department. Video of the incident is below. After you watch it, we ask ALL of you to flood their phonelines and email address (below) with complaints regarding the main policeman involved, Officer Joey Williams. You should also contact your local news organizations to help spread the word. The more attention this officer gets, the better for us.

UPDATE

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Jun. 27, 2007
——————————————————————————–

(AP) A police officer who appears to choke a skateboarder and put two others in a headlock in a video posted online has been put on administrative leave while police investigate, officials said.

Hot Springs Mayor Mike Bush said Tuesday that investigators have talked with witnesses who saw the officer, Joey Williams, stop the skateboarders on a downtown city sidewalk last Thursday. Skateboarding is banned in the area.

The video shows Williams apparently choking one of the skateboarders after forcing him to the ground, then later chasing and wrestling two others while holding them in a headlock.

“Unfortunately, the video shows it pretty good,” Bush said.

Bush said he won’t be sure of the city’s next step until the investigation is complete. The video, taken by Matthew Jon McCormack and another unidentified skater, was posted Monday on YouTube, a popular Internet site.

Williams can be heard threatening one person with pepper spray if he moved, and several voices are heard asking why they were being arrested. One person can be seen running from Williams, and Williams later tells them they are fleeing and acting disorderly.

Williams did not answer a request through the department for an interview and did not respond to a phone message left at a home number in his name.

Police spokesman McCrary Means identified two of those arrested as McCormack, 21, and Skylar Nalls, 19, both of Hot Springs. McCormack faces a misdemeanor battery charge after allegedly pushing or striking a 67-year-old city employee during the altercation, Means said. Nalls was cited for skateboarding and faces misdemeanor charges of fleeing and obstructing governmental operations.

Four juveniles involved in the incident also face skateboarding citations and resisting arrest charges, Means said.

McCormack disputed many of the police allegations, especially his battery charge. He said he pulled on the city employee’s arm after the man picked a girl off her feet in a choke-hold.

Hot Springs is a resort town about 50 miles west of Little Rock.

New California Laws effective July 1st

Funnies, My Life | 1 Comment

Remember people don’t believe everything that you are told in life or on myspace. Here’s a post to all the people out there that seem to think that everything posted on myspace is in any way true. It’s like high school all over again let’s spread a rumor that Rob got Lazie pregnant OMG I can’t believe it.

Yeah and you shouldn’t, here’s what I found out about the New California Laws (2 out of 10 isn’t bad right?)

If you want to know what the typical fines are in your area, call your local traffic court.

1. Carpool lane - 1st time $1068.50 starting 7/1/07 (The $271 posted on the highway is old). Don’t do it again because 2nd time is going to be double. 3rd time triple, and 4th time license suspended-Fiction!
In 2007, the recommended fine for a first time car pool violation was $380. Repeat offenders can expect to pay more, but nothing near the amounts represented in this email.

2. Incorrect lane change - $380. Don’t cross the lane on solid lines or intersections-Fiction!
The Uniform Bail and Penalty Schedule said $134 for a typical infraction.

3. Block intersection - $485-Fiction!
The Uniform Bail and Penalty Schedule said $175.

4. Driving on the shoulder - $450-Fiction!
The Uniform Bail and Penalty Schedule said $134.

5. Cell phone use in the construction zone. - Double fine as of 07/01/07. Cell phone use must be “hands free” while driving-Fiction!
There was no law in California during 2007 restricting the use of cell phones in the car. There was such a law going into effect in July, 2008. There was no “double fine” as of 7/1/07 because there was no law in effect regarding cell phones. The new California law does not mention construction zones although penalties for traffic violations are higher if they occurred in a highway construction or maintenance area.

6. Passengers over 18 not in their seatbelts - both passengers and drivers get tickets-Truth!
The California Mandatory Seat Belt Law requires all passengers to use some kind of restraint. Golden Gate BridgeChildren under 6 and weighing less than 60 pounds are required to be in “specified child passenger restraint system,” typically a car seat. Everybody older than 6 must wear seat belts. At this writing the fines range from less than $100 for a first offence to more than $300 when it’s kids who are not buckled in. According to the California Highway Patrol any adults in a vehicle who are not wearing seatbelts are subject to citation, not just the driver. The driver will be held accountable for any children not restrained.

7. Speeders can only drive 3 miles above the limit-Fiction!
The speed limit is the speed limit. There is no legal definition allowing a driver to go 3 miles per hour above that.

8. DUI = JAIL (Stays on your driving record for 10 years!)-Truth!
At the time of this writing a first offense for driving under the influence in California results in anywhere between 96 hours and 4 months in jail. a fine, and a six-month suspension of the license. Those are the court penalties. There are separate penalties to the Department of Motor Vehicles. As of January 1, 2007 a driving under the influence conviction will be on a person’s record for 10 years.

9. As of 07/01/07 cell phone use must be “hands free” while driving. Ticket is $285. They will be looking for this like crazy - easy money for police department-Fiction!
By law all drivers in California must be using hands-free cell phones as of July 1, 2008. The fine was $20 for the first offense and $50 for each subsequent offense. The exceptions are for emergency use, drivers of emergency vehicles, and drivers of commercial vehicles can use the push-to-talk type wireless phones until July 1, 2011.

Think for yourself people, remember how many strangers BS you believe when you first meet them. If you believe it all I have a bridge for sale next week check in with me about the price, it’s going real cheap. I just hope that we as a generation can think for ourselves, it’s truly necessary if we are to find a new direction for our world as a whole.

Feeling of the day

My Life | No Comments

One more smokeWow doesn’t it just seem like an easy decision to not have a cigarette in the morning. Yet when the first thing you do each time you wake up is reach for one and go outside I feel like this today. Let’s take this thing one moment at a time, yesterday I enjoyed pushing my limits of comfort, now I keep resorting back to rationalizing just one. I love reading info about how kicking heroin is easier than quitting smoking. The unfortunate thing is you can’t use heroin to quit smoking otherwise I would gladly consider the option right now LOL.

Joe-Chemo I’m in desperate need of non smokers to hang out with, I can’t even spend 5 minutes with a smoker without thinking it’s cool just to have one. Of course I’m not fooled that one leads to smoking a pack a day for 17 years like it has for me so far. I’m sure if I keep this up I’ll have enough Camel Cash for the iron lung that I will need.

Day One No Smoking

My Life | 4 Comments

Ok so I figured that I would mark another shot at quitting smoking today, at this point it’s been since last night at about 8:30pm I made a decision to not pick up another cigarette. At this point being roughly 20 minutes to 3 o’ clock I feel like I have a lump in my throat and my mind is racing pretty damn quickly. Not much for a lesson of being in the moment or is it? I am consumed with wanting to push away my obsession for a smoke. It’s not the best way to go about it, as i write this down I’m able to be in the moment.

As I am in my body right now I will acknowledge that I want a cigarette, and try to investigate how my body is reacting to these feelings. I have a tightness in my throat, and a hard stomach.

The reason I chose to take on this attempt was because of something that I heard at my meditation old-smoker.jpgclass on monday night. I heard Noah talk about stepping up our practice and choosing to take on the uncomfortable. This is a pressing issue that has plagued my existence since since I took my year to live practice to heart.

I’m hoping that the more I put it out there that I am a non smoker the more I can accept this as who I am at this very moment in time. I will not create more suffering myself if I choose to smoke once again but for right now I will not.

This post may not make much sense but it is how my mind is running right now, maybe if I put it down right now I can at least take a look at it later on and get a good laugh.
